Reflections:
Over the course of the week while completing this assignment, I made some realizations that I didn’t really have before. I choose the GoPro, because I though it was the perfect product for educational and training environments. I was keen on the all aspects of the product and thought I had considered all factors for its strength as a technology-learning venture. As I did more and more research, I became more and more critical and aware of the shortcomings that exist within the product, and with what other markets may influence the future success of the company. I had not considered the threat of smart phone video applications, or competitors that were coming from a camera perspective, and not just a mount with an outsourced camera sensor. All these factors cause me to take a step back and really look at the entire process with a much more critical lens. I still believe that GoPro is an amazing company that will continue to have success, but I now know that they are going to have to be extremely flexible and creative with more new designs and price points if they want to remain a leader and attract more markets.
In terms of my approach with the upcoming opportunity pitch assignment #3, I feel better equipped to reverse engineer my own pitch with the analytical skills and framework that I have been applying in assignment #1. I feel that I have become more cautious and critical of market propositions and this skill set will help me create a stronger case for investors to believe in my venture.
