Company History:
The GoPro company was founded in 2002 by CEO Nick Woodman. The very first camera sold by Woodman used 35mm film, and eventually the product evolved into the digital domain used today. Woodman’s inspiration to start the company began with a surfing trip where he wanted to capture quality action photos of his surfing, but could not get a photographer close enough to him to capture the experience. The GoPro was born with the ability to capture stills and video from many different points of view. A decade later, GoPro achieved the highest-selling point-of-view camera on the market. By 2012, GoPro was responsible for 21.5% of digital camcorder shipments in the US.
